Feds ask ND tribal communities to return drugs
Federal officials are asking residents on North Dakota Indian reservations to remove outdated prescription drugs from their homes.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Federal officials are asking residents on North Dakota Indian reservations to remove outdated prescription drugs from their homes.
The program is called Indian Country Take Back Initiative. It is scheduled between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday on each of the four reservations.
U.S. Attorney Timothy Purdon says abuse of prescription medications is a growing epidemic in tribal communities. He says the primary way abusers get access to prescription drugs is by stealing old and unused drugs from families and friends.
The service is free and anonymous, with no questions asked.
