FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A soldier with North Dakota roots is recovering in a hospital in Germany after being wounded in a weekend bomb blast in Afghanistan.
WDAY-TV reports that Hope area native and North Dakota State University graduate Eric Mewes is an Army specialist who deployed in August with the Colorado-based 576th Engineer Company.
Family members say the 27-year-old Mewes suffered two broken legs and other injuries when the convoy he was in was hit by a roadside bomb Saturday. He is not expected to lose any limbs.
Mewes is expected back in the United States in a few days. He will recover for six to eight weeks at a military installation in Texas before coming home.
