North Dakota's deer gun hunting season opens
North Dakota's deer gun hunting season opens at noon Friday.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota's deer gun hunting season opens at noon Friday.
State wildlife officials this year made available about 6 percent fewer licenses overall because of a decline in the deer population following a string of tough winters and the loss of some habitat. The 110,000 licenses are the lowest in a decade.
Game and Fish Department Wildlife Chief Randy Kreil (kryl) says the situation isn't gloom and doom, but it is different from the banner years to which hunters have become accustomed. Deer licenses peaked at about 150,000 just three years ago.
The season runs through Nov. 20.
