MINOT, N.D. (AP) — A Minnesota company says it will take about five weeks to repair levees along North Dakota's Souris River that were damaged by major flooding earlier this year.
The Minot Daily News reports that Ceres Environmental Services Inc. of Brooklyn Park, Minn. was hired by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to repair six levee sites in Renville County and in the cities of Burlington and Minot for $542,000.
The Souris River flooded because of excessive snowmelt and rain on both sides of the U.S.-Canada border.
Ceres president Troy Garrett says that work on the first of two phases should be completed by Dec. 20. But he says that asphalt work to finish the project at some of the locations will have to wait until warmer weather next spring.
