A semi traveling along 12th Avenue Southeast drove over a barrier and struck a railroad crossing arm Wednesday, diverting traffic from the intersection, according to the Jamestown Police Department.

Police said a semi was traveling north on 12th Avenue Southeast near its intersection with Third Street Southeast. In an attempt to turn right, the semi drove over the barrier and the main crossing arm for eastbound traffic, said Cpl. Justin Blinsky.

Because of the crash, trains were required to stop at the intersection of Third Street Southeast. In a press release, the Jamestown City Engineer’s Office said the closure may cause traffic delays in that area as well as at the other railroad crossings in Jamestown at Seventh Avenue Southeast, Second Avenue Southeast, First Avenue South and Second Avenue Southwest.

More information was not immediately available Wednesday.
