Christian children’s author Donovan Gibson will present his latest children’s picture book, “The Ticker That Needed a Fixer,” at upcoming locations in Jamestown.
The book is inspired by his son’s need for heart surgery at the age of 7 months and through a string of peculiar events he was led to Christ through the actions of his son.
Gibson will be presenting his story in a fun and unique way at St. John’s Academy at 9 a.m. Monday. Parents are also encouraged to attend. He will also have a book signing/sale at the Mustard Seed in the Buffalo Mall from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Dec. 3. A portion of the proceeds from book sales at all Jamestown area events and signings will be donated to the Backpack for Kids weekend food program in the name of the hosting organization.
Gibson’s son is scheduled for his second heart surgery. Gavin, now 9 years old, will have valve replacement surgery on Dec. 14 at St. Mary’s Pediatric Hospital at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn. Donovan Gibson will be sharing his testimony with parents and story with the patients at St. Mary’s Hospital on Dec. 13.
“We have been blessed with the prayers and the actions of the community as Gavin gets ready for his surgery,” Gibson said. “The Jamestown Hockey Club has planned a wonderful surprise for him before we leave for Mayo Clinic. As an advocate of youth sports it was uplifting to see a youth sports organization go beyond the game and show that they care more about the person than they do the player. Our family’s loyalty to JHC has been cemented and we thank them for what they do for all players in the program.”
