Some N.D. refuges open to bird hunting

North Dakota’s deer gun hunting season ended Sunday, but that doesn’t mean the end of hunting opportunities. The muzzleloader deer season opens at noon this Friday and continues through Dec. 11. Hunters with a lottery muzzleloader license can hunt white-tailed deer statewide.

BISMARCK (AP) — North Dakota’s deer gun hunting season ended Sunday, but that doesn’t mean the end of hunting opportunities.

The muzzleloader deer season opens at noon this Friday and continues through Dec. 11. Hunters with a lottery muzzleloader license can hunt white-tailed deer statewide.

The Game and Fish Department reminds outdoors enthusiasts that some national wildlife refuges in North Dakota open to late-season upland game bird hunting the day after the deer gun season closes.

The Arrowwood, Audubon, Des Lacs, J. Clark Salyer, Lake Alice, Lake Zahl, Long Lake, Lostwood, Tewaukon and Upper Souris refuges opened Monday. Hunting at Tewaukon is for pheasants only, and portions of each refuge are closed to hunting. Nontoxic shot is required.
