WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) — The first half of Williston’s first K-9 unit is complete. Police have a dog.
Officer Dustin Bertsch said the one-year-old female black lab is being trained by a U.S. Border Patrol official. Bertsch will be paired with the dog in January and training for the team is scheduled to be completed in February.
Now the unit needs a vehicle. A motion was approved at last week’s city commission meeting to send out bids for the customized squad car, which requires a special cage, narcotics equipment and safety sensors.
Bertsch told the Williston Herald the community has been asking for a K-9 unit to help with drug enforcement.
