Canada to unveil Souris River dams plan next week
The water authority in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan is preparing to unveil its 2012 operating plan for Souris River dams.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The water authority in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan is preparing to unveil its 2012 operating plan for Souris River dams.
Gov. Jack Dalrymple and U.S. Sen. John Hoeven say the Canadian group will present the plan to North Dakota officials and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at a meeting Dec. 8 in St. Paul, Minn.
Water officials north of the border operate three dams on the Souris upstream from Minot and other North Dakota communities that were hit by record flooding earlier this year. Hoeven and Dalrymple say Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall told them Tuesday that officials are creating additional storage capacity in the dam reservoirs for next spring.
Hoeven and Dalrymple are working to line up another meeting with Saskatchewan officials in the provincial capital of Regina.
