The Jamestown Salvation Army is in a “red kettle crisis” for the second year in a row, according to Lt. Mitch Brecto. With Christmas a week away, red kettle donations are down $5,000 compared to last year, a 16 percent decrease.
“Kettle donations are down,” said Brecto, administrator of the Jamestown Salvation Army. “The closing of a major grocery store in town is having a major impact on kettle income. We humbly ask for the Jamestown community to generously give to the kettles and help us serve the community by donating money and bell ringing. Bell ringing time slots are still available, and this will help us get back on track.”
The Jamestown Salvation Army receives about 20 percent of its annual income via Christmastime donations. These funds are used to provide food, clothing, shelter and other emergency assistance to hundreds of local families in need.
Donations can be made:
* at any of four Jamestown area kettle sites.
* online at www.the salarmy.org and designate your gift “Jamestown, N.D.”
* by calling 800-SAL-ARMY and designating a credit card gift “Jamestown, N.D.”
* by donating stock or IRA funds by calling 651-746-3504.
* by mailing a check to The Salvation Army, 320 First Ave. N., Jamestown, ND 58401.
The Jamestown Salvation Army serves more than 3,000 people a year through its local center of operation.
