FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Christmas Day is one of the two riskiest days of the year when it comes to candle fires. The other? New Year's Day.
The Fargo Fire Department urges residents to be careful with candles, as well as with natural pine trees, as the holiday season wanes. Candles, trees and other ornaments present fire hazards notorious for leading to holiday-season injuries and home damage.
Officials say it's important to follow manufacturer guidelines for Christmas tree lights and ornaments. People burning candles should never leave them unattended. Candles should also be kept away from combustible materials, including holiday decorations.
