TONOPAH, Nev. (AP) — The Nevada Highway Patrol says three people are dead and one is clinging to life following a head-on crash near Tonopah.

Trooper Chuck Allen says a preliminary investigation shows a Ford Super Duty crew cab pickup driven by a 55-year-old North Dakota man was heading south on U.S. 95 when the left front tire blew out.

The pickup veered into the path of a Toyota Sequoia SUV driven by a 37-year-old woman. Two passengers also were in the vehicle, a 68-year-old man and 67-year-old female.

Allen says all three are from northern Nevada. They died at the scene.

The truck driver suffered life-threatening injuries and was flown to a hospital.

Names have not yet been released.

The crash happened around 3 p.m. Monday, about 10 miles north of Tonopah.
