BISMARCK (AP) — The Bismarck City Commission has set a timeline to replace Police Chief Keith Witt by the time he retires in May.

The Bismarck Tribune reported commissioners hope to hire a new chief by the end of April.

The city will begin advertising for the post next week.

Commissioner Parrell Grossman said an outside consultant will help screen applicants.

Witt became chief in 2007 when Debbie Ness retired. He will have 31 years on the force when he retires.
