MINOT, N.D. (AP) — Hundreds of poker players gathered in Minot, N.D., are set to learn which of them will be pocketing $42,000 in winnings in the North Dakota Texas Hold ‘Em Championship.
The tournament wraps up with the crowning of a champion Saturday night.
The Minot Daily News reports that tournament organizers hoped the event draw nearly 2,000 poker enthusiasts to the event at The Vegas Motel. The tournament started Thursday.
The Minot State University Alumni Association uses the event to raise money for a marketing scholarship.
Alumni association executive director Chad McNally tells the newspaper that students also gain real-world marketing experience by helping to plan and organize the annual tournament, which is in its eighth year.
Motel manager Wendy Rupert says the event is growing into a “well-known, established tournament.”
