Memo: N.D. is getting to little aid

A North Dakota Department of Transportation official said that the state will receive $100 million less from the federal government than is needed to repair flood damage.

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) — A North Dakota Department of Transportation official said that the state will receive $100 million less from the federal government than is needed to repair flood damage.

The Valley City Times-Record reported that Local Government Engineer Paul Benning sent a memo to state officials outlining the gap in funding vs. need.

Benning wrote that the estimated cost to repair damage infrastructure is more than $510 million. He continues that North Dakota needs about $430 million in federal aid to pay for fixes. He closed by saying that North Dakota will receive only $320 million in federal aid.

The newspaper reported that there’s less federal money to cover disasters in the state that included 29 counties and the cities of Minot, Valley City and Fargo.
