The Jamestown City Council appointed Sgt. Scott Edinger to the position of police chief during a special meeting Thursday. Edinger was a unanimous choice for the position.
Edinger, Sgt. Tom Nagel, Lt. Robert Opp and Capt. Gary Peterson of the Jamestown Police Department and Lt. Joel Scharf of the Moorhead Police Department interviewed for the position in December. Scharf eliminated himself from consideration in January.
Edinger will assume his post immediately but will be allowed time to wrap any tasks he is involved with as a detective with the department. Edinger was out of town on training and could not be reached for comment Thursday afternoon.
