Basketball team’s bus rolls over, injures 28
The North Dakota Highway Patrol says 28 students have been taken to hospitals with non-life threatening injuries after a bus carrying a boys basketball team rolled over near New England.
DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) — The North Dakota Highway Patrol says 28 students have been taken to hospitals with non-life threatening injuries after a bus carrying a boys basketball team rolled over near New England.
The Dickinson Press reported the accident involving the Hettinger-Scranton team bus happened Friday afternoon. Games scheduled against Dickinson Trinity were postponed.
Hettinger-Scranton coach Adam Hill said the bus hit a patch of ice while trying to negotiate a curve and went into a ditch. He said the driver tried to slow the bus by steering it toward an open field, but instead it came upon a gravel road off the highway.
The patrol said the bus rolled one and a half times and came to rest on its side.
Hill and the patrol said most of the injuries were minor cuts and bruises and that none are life-threatening.
