MINNEWAUKAN, N.D. (AP) — A grocery store and gas station is opening in the flood-threatened North Dakota community of Minnewaukan.
The Saturday opening for Spirit Water Grocery and Gas marks the first time in seven months that the town has had such a business. McQuoid's Grocery, which also sold gasoline, closed last June.
Mayor Mark Motis tells the Grand Forks Herald that in the past seven months, the closest place for residents to fill up their vehicles was 10 miles away in Oberon. The closest groceries were about 20 miles away.
The new business also includes a café, which will be something new for the community that has battled Devils Lake flooding for years.
