PEMBINA, N.D. (AP) — A study hopes to find ways to ease traffic backups at one of the busiest border crossing stations between Canada and the United States.
The stations are located in Pembina, in northeastern North Dakota, and Emerson in southern Manitoba.
Customs officials said the port of entry has handled $13 billion to $17 billion worth of goods hauled by trucks for each of the last five years.
North Dakota, Manitoba and the federal Transport Canada agency are financing a $200,000 study of how to avoid backups that can stretch for more than a mile. It should be finished by September.
