WATFORD CITY, N.D. (AP) — Hospitals in Bismarck and Watford City have agreed to work together.
McKenzie County Healthcare Systems’ pending affiliation with Bismarck’s St. Alexius Medical Center is aimed at helping the Watford City hospital keep up with growth in western North Dakota.
McKenzie County Healthcare Systems CEO Daniel Kelly told the Minot Daily News it’s becoming more difficult to operate a small rural hospital without help. He said clinic patient volume last year was up 25 percent from 2010, and emergency room traffic doubled.
St. Alexius will help with physician recruitment, facility planning and regulations, and also will send specialists from Bismarck to see patients in Watford City. St. Alexius vice president Kurt Waldbillig said patients needing a higher level of care might in turn seek it from his hospital.
