Jamestown’s flower shops are ready for their busy day today — Valentine’s Day — even those who’ve waited until the very last minute.

Don’s House of Flowers in southeast Jamestown has an entire system dedicated to those in need of a good gift during the daylong time crunch.

“We prepare immensely for these kinds of shoppers each year so we understand,” said Cara Prescott, owner of Don’s House of Flowers.

She said their doors open at 9 a.m. for those in a “do or die kind of situation” — those needing to order a Valentine’s gift the day of. Six trucks will be hitting the road at 9 a.m. and will continue making deliveries until everyone has received their gift.

Because of a high volume of orders, those trucks are restricted to the Jamestown city limits only, as Prescott said they need to keep their trucks coming back and forth with enough frequency to satisfy all orders.

Country Gardens Floral in Jamestown is also prepared to help those who have procrastinated. Owner Gretchen Barnick has had her staff working extra hard since the weekend preparing for Valentine’s Day.

“With Valentine’s Day falling on a Tuesday, we’ve actually had the chance to get our flowers and products ready several days in advance,” she said.

Barnick said they will be sending out four trucks beginning at 8 a.m. and making deliveries through the evening.

“I’ve even had to call in some favors from my sons-in-law to help make some extra deliveries for us,” she said.

As for recommendations, Prescott and Barnick both admit red roses are among the most popular Valentine’s Day selections, but they acknowledged that other colorful arrangements are good as well.

Both owners said their coolers will be fully stocked in the morning with an array of flowers, such that walk-in customers will have an adequate amount of selection to choose from.
