No snow in northeastern North Dakota this winter means no snowmobiles, and no snowmobile riders who spend money to boost the region’s economy.
WALHALLA, N.D. (AP) — No snow in northeastern North Dakota this winter means no snowmobiles, and no snowmobile riders who spend money to boost the region’s economy.
The area has an an extensive network of snowmobile trails. Walhalla economic development director Kathy Stremick said when there’s snow on the ground, the area usually has snowmobilers seven days a week.
Stremick told WDAY-TV of Fargo that last weekend usually has one of the region’s biggest snowmobiling runs.
The Frost Fire Ski and Snowboard area near Walhalla has some manufactured snow.
Owner Richard Johnson said his ski runs are open, but business is down. He said the farm fields in the region are black and look like they’re ready for spring tilling.
