Bob Toso, district superintendent for the Jamestown Public Schools, gave an update on the proposed Two Rivers Activity Center at the Feb. 7 Rotary meeting.
Toso said the committee continues to meet on a regular basis with representation from the major parties which include the gymnastics club, Jamestown Parks and Recriation, YMCA, tennis club and JPS.
TRAC has hired an architect to do some preliminary plans so it can visualize
The space and layout for each of the entities. The committee realizes the cost is a concern, so part of the discussion will be and is about phasing in some of the space, like an indoor/outdoor water park or indoor tennis courts, etc. These are being discussed as well as how to fund a project of this magnitude. Members have visited Dickinson on its building, which has been a success.
The meeting was presided over by President Doug Frohlich, Marty Richman gave the invocation, and Gail Martin collected “Happy Dollars” for Rotary charities and projects. Frohlich reminded members to bring their spouses to the Valentine luncheon on Tuesday.
Music from the Jamestown High School music department will be preformed at the club.
District Gov.-elect Dave Smette shared on a Central States Rotary Student Exchange. There are currently 242 students who are preparing to come to the U.S. next school year as Rotary guests and, in turn, the Rotary communities need to have 242 students willing to go overseas as well. For more information, students can contact Smette, Warren Tobin, or Gary Riffe.
The guest at the meeting was Dave Rogers.
Frohlich announced the Wine and Brew Ha Ha Silent Auction and Rotary fundraiser will be at the Gladstone on April 19. Tickets will be forthcoming.
Tuesday’s meeting features a Valentine theme. A collection will be taken for Rotary International’s Polio Plus. Lyman Keim will give the invocation and Blaine Bergstedt will be sergeant-at-arms.
