Hockey backers support new arena

Hockey supporters are taking the first steps to raise $7 million for a new Grand Forks hockey arena.

GRAND FORKS (AP) — Hockey supporters are taking the first steps to raise $7 million for a new Grand Forks hockey arena.

It would give young hockey players and figure skaters more chances to practice, and allow for more youth hockey tournaments.

The city already has four rinks, but it also has about 1,500 youth hockey players.

Grand Forks park district development director Gary Harris said one weekend tournament with 24 teams can bring more than $300,000 into the city.
