Jury finds Cave guilty of manslaughter, criminal conspiracy

Janelle Cave was found guilty of manslaughter and criminal conspiracy Thursday in Southeast District Court in Jamestown.

Cave, 22, Jamestown, was charged in the April 2011 death of Abdi Ali Ahmed, 18, Jamestown. Ahmed was found dead in a road ditch on April 30, 2011. He died of blunt head trauma and also suffered stab wounds.

Sentencing will be in six to eight weeks. Criminal conspiracy is a Class AA felony punishable by life in prison without parole. Manslaughter is a Class B felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Leron Lee Howard, 34, Jamestown, is facing murder and criminal conspiracy charges for his alleged role in Ahmed's death. His trial is set to begin Aug. 7.

Cave's trial began last week and was given to the jury for deliberation Wednesday afternoon. Judge Thomas E. Merrick presided over the case.
