Slain Bismarck police officer honored at ceremony
A Bismarck police officer killed in the line of duty this past summer has been posthumously honored as the department's officer of the year.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A Bismarck police officer killed in the line of duty this past summer has been posthumously honored as the department's officer of the year.
The Bismarck Tribune reports that Sgt. Steve Kenner was honored Thursday during a ceremony that centered around the incident in which the 32-year veteran was shot. The department also gave Kenner its medal of honor award.
Kenner was shot July 8 while responding to a domestic disturbance.
Steven Bannister has been charged with murder and is set to stand trial in June.
Officer Brad Jerome, who shot Bannister, received the medal of honor and the hostile engagement award for incapacitating the suspect and keeping the other officers and public safe.
