An Oakes, N.D., teenager was killed and five people were injured in a crash Monday afternoon in Barnes County, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
The patrol identified Ashley Meyer, 16, Oakes, as the driver a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am northbound on N.D. Highway 1 Monday about 5 miles south of Interstate 94. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
At about 12:37 p.m., she lost control on the slush-covered road and the car started spinning into the southbound lane. A southbound 2001 Dodge Caravan driven by Richard Olson, 79, LaMoure, hit the Grand Am in its driver’s door. The car came to rest in the southbound lane and the Caravan stopped in the west ditch. Passengers in the Caravan included Rebecca Olson, 79, LaMoure, and Janice and Paul Mcintosh, whose ages were not available, of Jamestown. All four occupants of the Caravan were taken to Mercy Hospital, Valley City, N.D. for treatment of injures.
Danielle Brown, 17, Oakes, a passenger in the car driven by Meyer was taken to Mercy Hospital, Valley City, N.D., and then to Sanford, Fargo, for treatment of injuries.
All six people had been wearing their seat belts.
Both vehicles were totaled in the crash, which remains under investigation.
