Jamestown High School athletic director Jim Roaldson has been elected to the North Dakota High School Activities Board of Directors.
Roaldson, in his eighth year as AD at JHS, was elected by his peers from around the state as the North Dakota Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association’s representative on the Board.
The post carries a 4-year term, and entails a number of duties, including participating in state tournaments as one of the “blue coats.”
It’s the first time since the 1970s that an administrator from Jamestown has served in such a capacity.
“It’s a very nice honor,” Roaldson said.
It’s the second time in less than a month the Jamestown native has been honored.
He also was recognized by the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association as a Certified Athletic Administrator. The final step of which entailed taking a comprehensive written exam, which he completed in Indianapolis at the national convention in December just a block and a half away from Lucas Oil Stadium, where the Super Bowl was played just over two weeks ago.
“It was something I wanted to do. There are only so many opportunities to take the written exam and this time it worked out where I was able to do it,” Roaldson said.
It’s a busy time of year for ADs across the state, but Roaldson’s plate is especially full. Jamestown High School hosts region tournaments three consecutive weeks: wrestling Feb. 11, gymnastics Feb. 17 and boys’ swimming Feb. 25. He’s also tournament manager for the Region III boys’ basketball tournament at the Civic Center this week, plus several of the JHS athletic teams are in or coming up on regional and state tournaments.
“It’s that time of year,” he said.
