One person died Tuesday morning in a three-vehicle crash, the North Dakota Highway Patrol reported.
The crash happened at 11:49 a.m. on N.D. Highway 22, 5 miles south of Mandaree, N.D.
A male, who was not immediately identified, was driving a 1999 Ford pickup south on N.D. Highway 22, when he attempted to pass another southbound pickup driven by Joe Blickenstaff, 60, Oklahoma City, Okla., that was about to make a left turn. The 1999 Ford pickup clipped the rear of the pickup that Blickenstaff was driving, then slid sideways into oncoming traffic, where it was struck by a northbound 2011 International straight truck driven by Humberto Garcia, 51, Sidney, Mont.
The pickup driven by Blickenstaff and the International driven by Garcia then came to rest in the east ditch.
The driver of the 1999 Ford pickup died at the scene, the patrol said. An airbag deployed in the pickup. Blickenstaff and Garcia were not injured. They were wearing seat belts.
The patrol said it expects to release the name of the driver who was killed on Wednesday.
The crash remains under investigation.
