Both semifinals at the Region 4 tournament went down to the wire, but in the end Carrington and top-ranked North Star were able outlast their opponents to earn spots in the Region 4 championship.
The Cardinals barely edged out Four-Winds-Minnewaukan 62-61, while North Star narrowly outscored Warwick 86-85 in what was a shootout in Devils Lake.
Austin Johnson led four Carrington scorers in double digits with 17 and Scott Burnham followed with 15.
Jacob Hagler did the most scoring for North Star with 32, but teammate Daniel Grande was close behind with 29.
The championship will be decided on Thursday in Devils Lake.
Christian Ironroad led Four Winds-Minnewaukan with 25 points and Melvin Langstaff’s 32 topped Warwick’s list of scorers.

Region 1
The three ball led the way at the Region 1 semifinals with Oak Grove beating Kindred 70-63 behind 13 three-pointers and Central Cass outlasting Maple Valley 65-64 with the help of eight triples.
Alex Widmer hit four threes for Oak Grove to give him 18 points in the game and Jordan Funfar dropped three triples for 13 points.
Central Cass won a nail-biter over Maple Valley for the final spot in the Region 1 title tilt.
Matt Zimmerman hit five threes to give him 20 points in the game and Ellery Bresnahan put up 21 for the Squirrels with the help of two triples.
Maple Valley was led by Wade Steidl’s 22 and Kindred got most of its offense from Eric Bachmeier and Casey Reink, who finished with 18 and 17, points, respectively.
