A Food Expo featuring locally produced foods is planned from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Hi-Liner Activity Center lobby in Valley City (N.D.) High School. The goal is to raise awareness about the availability of locally and organically grown foods.

Featured products will include veggies, fruits, wheat, beef, pork, chicken, eggs, flax and many more. Some products will be organic and gluten free. There will also be growers who offer community-supported agriculture programs and community gardens.

There will be a number of vendors from the Jamestown, Cooperstown, Enderlin, and Valley City area. Tochi Products and Specialty Foods along with Sydney’s Health Market, two stores from the Fargo-Moorhead area, will have booths set up with their products which include organic along with gluten and lactose free items.

There is no admission charge. Area musicians will perform live music throughout the night.

There will be a short presentation on why to buy locally by Sue Balcom from the Foundation for Agricultural and Rural Resource Management and Sustainability organization.

The Food Expo is sponsored by What in the World is going on? (a Valley City State University and community group), the FARRMS, and the Young People’s Healthy Heart Program at Mercy Hospital. For more information, contact Sharon Buhr at 701-854-6456.
