Widow of Fargo lawmaker seeks seat

The widow of a state lawmaker from Fargo is launching a bid to win his legislative seat.

BISMARCK (AP) — The widow of a state lawmaker from Fargo is launching a bid to win his legislative seat.

The Forum newspaper reported that Margaret Mowery announced her campaign Monday to represent District 46 in the state Senate. Republican Sen. Tom Fischer represented the district from 1997 until his death last November.

Mowery has been state director of the Covering Kids and Families program at the Dakota Medical Foundation and also has worked for the Fargo Public Schools.

Businessman Jim Roers also is seeking the GOP endorsement in District 46.

Separately, KOVC radio in Valley City reported that veteran Democratic state House members Ralph Metcalf and Phil Mueller won’t seek another term. Metcalf says that at age 76, it’s time for him to step aside. Mueller said he wants more family time.
