St. John’s starts Ebertz scholarship

The Foundation for Advancement of Christian Education recently announced the establishment of the Millie and Joseph “Joe” Ebertz Scholarship Fund.

FACE, St. John’s Academy’s endowment fund, recognized this gift with a Eucharist at St. James Basilica with Joe Ebertz and other members of the Ebertz family present.

Millie Ebertz died June 2011. She was a longtime resident of Jamestown and taught science class at Jamestown Middle School for many years. She held degrees in medical technology and education.

“Millie was a valuable part of the FACE Board,” said Dave Barnick, FACE Board member. “She joined the FACE Board of Directors in 2004 and served many years as treasurer. As a lifelong investor, Millie provided much needed guidance, especially during the volatile times these past few years. She provided that sage advice that was needed for FACE to weather the investment storms so successfully.

“Due to health reasons, Millie resigned from the FACE Board in January 2011, but the board was able to convince her to stay connected to FACE by serving as an ex-officio advisor to FACE,” Barnick said.

“By establishing a ‘named’ scholarship fund, a portion of the funds given annually by FACE to St. John’s Academy will be earmarked in Millie and Joe’s name and used for student tuition assistance. This is an everlasting gift to the Academy,” Barnick added.

“Millie was extremely dedicated to St. John’s Academy,” said Joe Ebertz, Millie’s husband of 62 years. “Our children and then some of the grandchildren attended the academy. We were very pleased that this school continued to excel in offering a high quality Catholic Christian education. We are extremely proud to establish this scholarship fund.”
