BISMARCK (AP) — North Dakota officials are warning residents about a payday loan scam.
Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem said callers are posing as collectors of payday loans or other debts. Stenehjem said he issued a similar warning several months ago, but his office continues to receive complaints.
The attorney general said one victim from Bismarck lost $2,500 from the scam when the caller told her a warrant was out for her arrest and she would have to appear in court unless she paid. The victim wired money immediately.
Stenehjem said most of the complaints involve people who filled out online payday loan applications but never completed the process.
