Five in custody for alleged scam

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — Five people from North Dakota and Minnesota are in custody in South Dakota for an alleged scheme to sell counterfeit catalytic converters to a Rapid City salvage yard.
Pennington County State’s Attorney Glenn Brenner said the five are wanted in other jurisdictions for allegedly running the same bogus scrap metal scam.
The suspects in custody on attempted grand theft and conspiracy charges are Bosnian refugees living in the Fargo-Moorhead area. They range in age from 17 to 33.
