BISMARCK (AP) — Favorable weather has allowed livestock ranchers to make progress in shearing, calving and lambing.
The U.S. Agriculture Department said in its weekly crop, livestock and weather report that calving was 8 percent complete, lambing was 13 percent complete and shearing was 44 percent complete as of Sunday.
A late February winter storm has been providing some snow protection in some areas where it was needed.
Snow cover protection for alfalfa is rated 52 percent poor, 45 percent adequate and 3 percent excellent. Snow cover protection for winter wheat is 45 percent poor, 49 percent adequate and 6 percent excellent.
