BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Some schools in the Dakotas are closing in advance of a winter storm forecasters say could dump as much as 16 inches of snow.
The American News in Aberdeen reports that a handful of area schools are taking action. Aberdeen is in one of the South Dakota areas for which the National Weather Service has posted a blizzard warning through Wednesday.
School closings also are being reported in central and western South Dakota.
Most of North Dakota and South Dakota is under some type of blizzard or winter weather warning or advisory, as the storm begins sweeping into the Northern Plains from the Rockies. With the snow and strong winds, forecasters say travel will be dangerous in many areas. Some parts of South Dakota also might see freezing rain.
