Optimist Club cites athletes for awards

Alex Lind and Luke Allen of Jamestown High School and Jamestown College’s Wes Hardy and Jessica Lees have been named Athletes of the Week by the Jamestown Optimist Club.

Lind, a junior on the JHS gymnastics team, placed first in all-around at the team half of the state meet in Dickinson Feb. 24 with a score of 37.667. She then placed third in the all around the next day during individual competition with a 37.717. She also had a career best of 9.833 on floor, just 24/1000ths short of second.

Allen, a senior on the JHS swim team, qualified for state in the 200 medley relay and 100 backstroke at the West Region meet here Feb. 25.

Hardy, a senior from Renton, Wash., on the JC baseball team, fired six shutout innings in a 7-0 win over Minnesota-Crookston on Sunday. He allowed four hits with four strikeouts.

Jessica Lees, a senior from Arcola, Saskatchewan on the Jimmie softball team, went 2-1 in 21 2/3 innings at the Husky Invite in St. Cloud. She had 11 strikeouts and posted an ERA of 3.88.
