FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The municipal judge in North Dakota's largest city is stepping down after nearly 40 years behind the Fargo bench.

Seventy-two-year-old Judge Thomas Davies was diagnosed with pancreatitis last year. He says he's having major surgery this month and will not seek re-election in June.

Davies became the Fargo Municipal Court judge in April 1972.

He is the son of former federal judge Ronald Davies, who is famous for his rulings in 1957 to integrate the public schools in Little Rock, Ark.
