Data show warm winter in Red River Valley

The National Weather Service says preliminary data show that Fargo had its warmest winter on record.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The National Weather Service says preliminary data show that Fargo had its warmest winter on record.

The average daily temperature in North Dakota's largest city from Dec. 1 through Feb. 29 was 22.1 degrees, surpassing the record of 22 degrees set in 1987. The weather service says December, January and February are the meteorological winter months.

Grand Forks had its second-warmest winter, at an average of 19.2 degrees. The warmest winter in the city was in 1983, at 19.6 degrees.
