Ethanol sales nearly double in North Dakota
Sales of ethanol-blended fuel in North Dakota nearly doubled last year.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Sales of ethanol-blended fuel in North Dakota nearly doubled last year.
State Tax Department data shows that more than 1.3 million gallons of ethanol-blended fuel was sold in the state last year. That's up from about 663,000 barrels in 2010.
Officials credit the rise in ethanol use to a grant program for retailers who install so-called blender pumps.
The state program provides retailers with a $5,000 grant, in addition to tax incentives, for each blender pump installed.
The North Dakota Ethanol Council says there are 221 blender pumps in 44 North Dakota communities.
