Sex offender moves here

A high-risk sex offender has moved to James-town, according to the James-town Police Department. Gero Davis Mahto, 42, has moved to 908 Third Ave. SE. Mahto was convicted of gross sexual imposition. During a three-month period in 1992, he raped four women. He was convicted on Sept. 22, 1992, in Cass County District Court and sentenced to 10 years on each count, with 106 days credit.

Mahto was convicted of gross sexual imposition. During a three-month period in 1992, he raped four women. He was convicted on Sept. 22, 1992, in Cass County District Court and sentenced to 10 years on each count, with 106 days credit.

Mahto has been assigned a high-risk assessment by the North Dakota Risk Level Committee, North Dakota Attorney General’s Office.

He is described as an American Indian, 6 feet 2 inches tall, 280 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair.

Mahto is on GPS monitoring. He will be on probation with the North Dakota Parole and Probation Department.

Mahto is not wanted by police at this time and has served the sentence imposed by the court. The notification is intended for public safety and not to increase fear in the community. The information should also not be used to threaten, assault or intimidate Mahto. Attempts to harass, intimidate or threaten Mahto or his family, landlord or employer will be turned over for prosecution.
