Gross speaks to Kiwanis on ID theft

Sandy Franke introduced Sgt. Leroy Gross from the Jamestown Police Department at the Kiwanis Club noon luncheon meeting on Feb. 27 at the Lantern Room.

Gross has 22 years of experience with the police department and has been a detective for 12 years. His speech primarily focused on identity theft and wire fraud. Gross provided several examples of scams occurring in the area. He takes a proactive approach to informing potential victims and the general public about ways to protect and prevent such scams.

Tim Burchill led the meeting with 19 people attending. Wes Hart and Burchill led the group singing and “Happy Dollars” were collected by Darrel Berntson for pediatric care at Jamestown Regional Medical Center. Joyce Bentz was inducted as a new member of the club. Her sponsor is Janna Bergstedt.

There will be a roundtable for the Kiwanis Club at noon Monday in the Lantern Room.

The usual meeting will be replaced by members attending the National Ag Week Luncheon at Farmers Union headquarters on March 14.
