NEW NDQuits website unveiled

The state Health Department announced Thursday it has unveiled a new website for tobacco users who want to quit.

BISMARCK (AP) — The state Health Department announced Thursday it has unveiled a new website for tobacco users who want to quit.

Tobacco Prevention and Control Program director Michelle Walker told The Forum that program services include free nicotine patches and gum, access to professional cessation counselors and online support from other quitters.

Walker hopes the new NDQuits program name will be easy for people to remember and to find the help they need.

Health Department Division of Chronic Disease director Karalee Harper says tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of death and disability in North Dakota.

She said nearly 900 people in the state die each year from tobacco use.
