Grand Forks police investigate large copper theft

Grand Forks police are investigating the reported theft of $40,000 worth of copper wire.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Grand Forks police are investigating the reported theft of $40,000 worth of copper wire.

Authorities say an initial investigation found that a door at RBB Electric was forced open Sunday or Monday. The Grand Forks Herald reports that investigators believe thieves got away with a 1,000-pound spool of copper wire. Police say it would take several people to move such a spool.

Copper can bring high prices when sold for scrap metal.
