Class B basketball: Lions headed to state
Linton-Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock used a quick start to punch its ticket to the state Class B girls’ basketball tournament with a 60-49 win over Napoleon on Thursday night in the Region 3 championship game in Napoleon. Linton-Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock used a quick start to punch its ticket to the state Class B girls’ basketball tournament with a 60-49 win over Napoleon on Thursday night in the Region 3 championship game in Napoleon.
Kayin Schneider came up big in the biggest game of the season with 23 points, eight rebounds and four assists to lead the charge, which started with 33 points coming in the first half.
The Lions had three players score in double digits in Schneider, McKenna Flyberg (13) and Robin Weber (12).
The Imperials had two players reach double digits with Sheridan Dewald leading the way with 16. Kendra Weigel had 14.
In the third-place game, South Border’s Kalli Scherbenske and Karly Wald had 16 points apiece to lead the Mustangs to a 55-43 victory over Pingree-Buchanan-Kensal.
Wald also finished with 15 rebounds and four assists.
Amanda Beckley led all P-B-K scorers with 14 points, including 6-of-9 from the free-throw stripe.

The Vikings knocked off No. 2-ranked Central Cass 57-51 in the Region 1 championship game in Lisbon.
The Vikings outscored the Squirrels 36-27 after trailing 24-19 at the break.
Braidy Dahl topped Kindred with 18 points, while Kellie Schmit added 13.
Hannah Breske led the Squirrels with 17 points.
Lexi Zieske led Northern Cass with 18 points as they beat Maple Valley 62-52 in the third-place game.
Rylee Nudell led all scorers in the game for the Raiders with 20 points.
