Tim Burchill introduced Sister Suzanne Stahl to speak March 5 to Kiwanis on mission work in Cameroon, Africa. Stahl grew up in Binford, N.D. She is one of the three sisters on the leadership team of Sisters of Mary Presentation. Stahl has a master’s degree in social work.

Stahl showed slides of the people they have worked with in Cameroon. One of the areas she showed working in had a 94 percent unemployment rate. They live off the land. As soon as they can walk, they are out scavenging bugs to eat. When they get a little older, they look for small rodents and as they grow older hunt for larger animals to survive on. Life is virtually just maintaining, however they love to sing. They have been working in six locations there since 1956. She said the government does give vaccinations. Education will be the key to getting them out of their present situation.

Burchill led the meeting, which was attended by 17 members. Norm Winkleman led the group singing accompanied by Burchill. Joyce Bentz collected “Happy Dollars” for pediatric care at Jamestown Regional Medical Center. There was a roundtable meeting Monday as members will attend the National Agriculture Week Luncheon at noon Wednesday at North Dakota Farmers Union.

Pamela Wirth will line up the speaker for the noon luncheon meeting Monday at the Lantern Room.
