The Jamestown boys’ hockey team’s bid for a second straight state tournament appearance came up short in the West Region tournament back in February, but two Blue Jays’ accomplishments this season didn’t go unnoticed.
Juniors Jake Stilwell and Tygh Yatskis were both named to the all-state boys’ hockey team, joining 16 others of the state’s best to round out this year’s team.
Stilwell sealed his spot on the team by leading the Blue Jays with 29 goals and 40 points. He finished tied for the third-most goals in the state and the 12th-most points.
Stilwell was a catalyst in nearly lifting Jamestown into the state tournament with six goals in the West Region tournament, but the high-powered Bottineau Braves’ offense proved to be too much in the state qualifier.
Yatskis, who, along with Stilwell, was also named all-West Region, finished the season with a team-high .900 save percentage in his second year seeing considerable time in the net.
The junior netminder finished with a record of 6-11-1, but was busy all season facing an average of over 36 shots per game.
Yatskis started in net all three games for the Blue Jays in the West Region tournament compiling 99 saves and an .868 save percentage.
The Blue Jays finished the season with a record of 8-15-1.
