Terrelle Owens of Austin, Texas, and Maua Vole Jr. of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, have signed with the Jimmie football team.

Owens, a cornerback, joins two of his high school teammates at Jamestown College. He recorded 73 tackles and four interceptions last season for Del Valle High, earning all-district honors.

“Terrelle is a very fluid player who has shown the ability to make big plays in the secondary. He is physical in the run game and plays with a tremendous amount of enthusiasm,” said JC football coach Shawn Frank. “His ability to break on the ball, run with speed receivers and make splash plays are essential tangibles for success at the cornerback position.

“We are excited to watch Terrelle elevate his game even more when he arrives on campus.”

He is the son of Terrelle Owens and Irene Pickney, he plans to study pre-engineering or criminal justice at JC.

Vole comes to the Jimmies from Saddleback Junior College in California. He’ll play a defensive end spot at JC.

“Maua moves well with his feet and shows great strength at the point of attack. He is a very good athlete who plays the game with a high motor,” Frank said. “He shows a skill set in rushing the passer, which helps his overall game. We are excited that Maua has chosen Jamestown College. He is a great fit as a person and player.”

Jimmies ink Coon Rapids trio

The Jimmie baseball team has added three players from the successful Coon Rapids American Legion baseball team.

Kent Sipola, Cody Herrmann and Bobby Smith have all inked letters of intent with Jamestown College.

Sipola, a right-handed pitcher/outfielder, posted an ERA of 3.04 with 25 strikeouts in 33 innings last summer. He currently attends Anoka Ramsey Community College. He is the son of Mark and Penny Sipola.

Herrmann, a right-handed pitcher, logged 33 2/3 innings last summer, going 5-0 with 42 strikeouts and a sparkling 1.69 ERA. He’ll graduate this spring and is the son of Greg and Linda Pike.

Smith, also a senior at Coon Rapids High School, hit .320 with 19 RBIs last summer. He’s a right-handed hitting outfielder/infielder. His brother, Sam Smith, is currently a red-shirt freshman at JC. He is the son of Deane and Becky Smith.

Coon Rapids posted a 35-8 record last Legion season. They won the Gopher Classic in Minneapolis and the Jamestown summer tournament last July.

“We are very fortunate to have these three student-athletes sign with us. They come from a quality baseball program and they are all first-class individuals,” JC baseball coach Tom Hager said. “I believe they will fit in here at Jamestown College and we look forward to working with them on the baseball field.”
