Class B Girls Basketball: Lions advance to title tilt

BISMARCK (AP) — Robin Weber and Kayln Schneider propelled Linton-Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock to a 47-30 semifinal victory over Beach on Friday at the North Dakota girls Class B basketball tournament.

Weber scored a game-high 17 points, grabbed eight rebounds and added four assists and three steals. Schneider added 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, helping the Lions (20-6) outrebound the Buccaneers 36-28.

The Linton-HMB co-op, which will play in its first title game, shot 51 percent from the field to Beach’s 25 percent. The Lions raced out to a 12-point lead early in the second quarter and never looked back.

Bailey Waldal led Beach (23-4) with eight points and seven rebounds.

Beach was playing without leading scorer and rebounder Kelcee Dykins, who suffered a foot injury in the quarterfinals.

Grafton 62, Shiloh Christian 45

Hanna Thompson powered Grafton to a 62-45 semifinal victory over Shiloh Christian in the first semifinal game.

Thompson posted a double-double, scoring 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. The Spoilers (25-1) opened the second half on a 13-4 run, turning a four-point halftime lead into a 13-point advantage. Samantha DeSautel added 10 points, while Cassie Thompson added 10 rebounds and eight points, helping Grafton stretch its winning streak to 21 games.

The Spoilers, making their first appearance in a Class B tournament, will play for their first state title. Grafton made eight appearances in the Class A state tournament.

Minot Ryan 58, Kindred 40

Minot Ryan’s Hannah Stewart flirted with a triple-double as the Lions beat Kindred 58-40 in consolation round play on Fridsay.

Stewart led the Lions (25-2) with 17 points on 8-for-12 shooting and 13 rebounds. She also seven blocked shots.

Kindred (24-3) was just 4-for-30 from 2-point range and 7-for-19 on 3-pointers.

Lakota-Adams-Edmore 55, New Town 45

Freshman Fallyn Freije had 21 points and 20 rebounds Friday to lead Lakota-Adams-Edmore to a 55-45 win over New Town in consolation play.

Freije made 10 of 14 shots from the field, hauled in five offensive rebounds, blocked three shots and dished out three assists for the Raiders (22-5). She helped LAE shoot 50 percent from the field and outrebound the Eagles 44-31.
